Radiothon is Coming!

COMING SOON: 3MDR’s 2024 Radiothon Fundraiser!

Your community radio station, 3MDR 97.1fm, will be holding its annual subscription and donation drive (aka 2024 Radiothon) in September and October this year with the theme “But Wait …There’s More!”. 

 

We are so excited to be celebrating our community with you but we do need your help and would be forever grateful if you could assist by becoming a subscriber to 3MDR. Your support will power the local creative content you love.

 

Our four-week campaign will highlight the many different ways that your community radio supports local artists, businesses, and community groups, and also the many (costly!) things that subscriptions and donations can help to support.

 

This is our main fundraiser for the year and all subscriptions from individuals, artists, businesses and community groups will help to keep us on air for the next 12 months. And everyone who subscribes goes in the running to win one of many exciting Radiothon prizes!

 

Radiothon will culminate in a “Big Gig” on October 11th at Sooki Lounge in Belgrave, featuring local artists and DJs. More details here.

 

A little bit about us:

 

3MDR is a not-for-profit community radio station that has provided an independent community voice for the Mountain District area for nearly 40 years. We run on the hard work, passion and dedication of two part-time staff, over 100 volunteers, and the generosity of the subscribers, donors and sponsors who fund the station … that’s you!

 

3MDR broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, each and every week of the year. Our shows are available on the FM dial [97.1fm], via live streaming or playback on-demand, and we are also on the Community Radio Plus app. We provide an alternative to commercial and national stations, giving a platform to music and issues of social justice; and for many people, causes and opinions that may otherwise not be heard.

 

Programming covers more than 60 volunteer-created programs featuring music, live performances, news, lifestyle and local community arts and culture, as well as emergency information and alerts, and community service announcements. We have specialist music programs that play everything from blues, country, rock, jazz, folk, indie, classical and everything in between and we make sure we play heaps of Australian music content. 3MDR is also proud to host a wide variety of community language programs in Greek, Romanian, Sri Lankan, Tamil, Hindi, Croatian, and Samoan.

 

Our volunteer program presenters are key contributors and innovators in Australia’s live music industry as we endeavour to help artists gain exposure, playing an important role in getting the word out about local gigs and artists to audiences across Australia. 

 

But Wait …There’s More!

3MDR volunteers form committees and subcommittees that make important decisions about 3MDR programming, technology, policies, and events. They help in the office with social media, data entry and graphic design, and in and around the studios with audio engineering, training and youth programs – and in and around the homestead with maintenance and gardening

 

Offsite, they volunteer at stalls, markets, and community events to promote the station, and they DJ at local events and fundraisers. 

 

 3MDR 97.1, supports local music, arts, cultures and   

 the environment.

What does it take to keep a community radio station on air?

 

Running a radio station can be costly… broadcast licence fees, music licence fees, site rent & utilities, transmission site fees.
