Meet 3MDR’s Newest Committee Member – Ben Langdon!

Hello 3MDRers! My name is Ben Langdon, I’m a local singer-songwriter and gig putter-onnerer, and I’m also the most recent addition to the 3MDR Committee of Management. Over the last 10 or so years 3MDR has offered me many, many opportunities to share my music with new people, and so it seemed only fair to volunteer a little bit of my time to help the station continue to do the amazing things that it does.

I’m going to take the opportunity here to share a little bit about myself, the 3MDR Committee or Management, and about the experience of joining.

In the short six months I’ve been on the Committee I’ve seen just how much work goes into keeping things running. Between the tireless Nat and Ren, the volunteers, the presenters, the technicians and the Committee, everyone chips in where and how they can to keep donations flowing in, the programs on the air, the lights on, and the relationship with the community strong.

The Committee itself is a group of volunteers who together make decisions about the present and future success of the station. These decisions revolve around legal and financial accountability, strategy, fundraising, risk and sustainability. It’s not all glamorous, but it’s work that needs to be done in order to protect and maintain 3MDR in a sustainable and meaningful way.

The committee is currently working on writing and updating a huge number of policies. Recently updated or rewritten policies include The Rules of Association, Diversity Policy, Volunteering Policy, Events, Child Safety and Complaints Handling Policies (all of which are viewable on the website!), with many more in the queue to be reviewed this year. We have also undertaken a governance audit by Eastern volunteers, and are in the process of confirming the budget for 2024-25.

We do this work because we, like you, love this station. We want to help 3MDR step gracefully into the future and continue impacting this community for many years to come.

So if you feel as though you have some skills or knowledge that may be of benefit to 3MDR and the Committee, please reach out. We would love to have more people with different skill sets, backgrounds, connections to the community, etc. Or if you would like to focus on a specific area, you’re able to join one of our many sub-committees- Policy, Tech, Programming and Events. I promise you, it’s a really great way to spend a few hours a month and have a real impact.
