Celebrating female singers from the 1930s, 40s, and 50s.
SWELL DAMES is a weekly radio show presented by Ross Schnioffsky and Dale Blair that celebrates female singers from the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. Of course, some of these fine songbirds began their careers in the 1920s and others of later decades continued singing on stage and screen into the 1960s and beyond, so a smattering of those songs will be featured too. Many contemporary artists continue to pay homage to the great singers and songs of yesteryear and so Ross and Dale will, on occasion, feature some of those celebratory voices.
Many of the artists of the period on which the show concentrates were multi-talented. As well as being great singers they could also act and dance a little – more than a little in many cases. Consequently many movies and other performances will be spoken about which suits Ross just fine as he is an expert on all things old Hollywood, particularly the genres of film noir and westerns. Dale is happy to ride on Ross’s coat tails whilst dreaming of drinking cocktails in smoky nightclubs watching his favourite chanteuses strut their stuff.
Ross and Dale invite you to join them in their celebration of the fabulous swell dames of a golden bygone era.
