3MDR Programming Update | May 2026
Written by Celeste Willoughby on June 19, 2026
Hello 3MDR listeners,
This is your Program Coordinator Celeste checking in with the latest programming news. The year is flying by and we have had a few shake-ups to the program grid since my last update in late January.
We have had a flurry of new presenters submit show proposals following our last training session in March. We have some really exciting new programs in the pipeline bringing dynamic new themes to the airwaves.
Keep an eye out for these new shows hitting the 3MDR grid over the next few weeks:
- Kristina has joined us with her new show ‘Spilling the T,’ airing Wednesdays 1-2pm and exploring genres and ideas that sit outside the commercial radio landscape.
- Friday evenings from 9-11pm sees a fresh take on jazz and improvised music from Tom with ‘The Same River Twice,’ featuring recent releases from Australia, Britain, Scandinavia, Japan.
- ‘Total Vibration’ has just began airing on Thursdays 10pm-midnight, with Jack who will be showcasing an energetic mix of African dance rhythms, Latin grooves, reggae and freer forms of jazz.
- We also have some new youth presenters gearing up for regular broadcasts very soon, so keep your eye out for all the details in the next programming update!
Sadly, we have also recently had a few of our presenters retire their shows:
- ‘Talking on the Moon’ with Cal‘s engaging on air banter had it’s last hurrah at the end of March.
- ‘Amped Up!’ also wrapped at the end of March, and we will miss getting the latest news about Melbourne’s live music scene from Jo.
- Dale presented his final broadcast of ‘Cliff’s Edge’ with his head-banging playlists of electronic music.
- Freo has shifted focus, leaving behind his show ‘Mad Mile Music Club’ to pour himself into his new project Local Australian Music Project. You can still catch Freo on air with 3MDR once per month on a new show with rotating hosts called ‘Revolver’ (details below!).
- The Rev is having a break from Gospel with Stew – we’ll let you know when he’ll be firing back up.
We have had some changes to the grid with existing shows shifting slots:
- Tanya has shifted to Fridays 10-11am with ‘The Reel Thing’ where you can continue to enjoy the best of cinema soundtracks on the 3MDR airwaves.
- ‘Audio Blast’ with Dan’s unmistakable upbeat music playlists has moved to Wednesday 5pm-7pm.
- We have two amazing pre-recorded programs from our friends at 3CR that we rebroadcast on a Friday evening – Earth Matters and Queering the Air. These programs are moving to the new time of 7am Wednesdays.
Our newer format for some shows featuring a rotation of presenters has also had some recent developments!
- ‘The Feast’ had its inception in late 2024, going to air on Tuesdays from 3-5pm and has seen a few changes to the roster over this time. Maggie and yours truly have been keeping this slot warm for a week per month each, and we are very excited to be back to a full rotation with Daniel and Hannah joining the program.
- Expanding on this model, we have a another show of rotating hosts called ‘Revolver’ that kicked off on the 13th of May, going to air on Wednesday evenings from 7-9pm with hosts Buffy, Freo & Shakes, Dap, and JD.
