20 Years of Dandenong Ranges Open Studios!!

Burrinja has announced 2023’s Dandenong Ranges Open Studios Weekend & Group Exhibition details, with participating studios revealed:

Your new favourite arts destination is less than an hour’s drive away, come and meet the makers in the hills.

We’re beyond excited to announce the return of Dandenong Ranges Open Studios, Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 April 2023. Celebrating its 20th year, this year’s program is bursting at the seams with over 50 artists across 44 participating studios, including 5 Collectives and 4 emerging artists.

20 years of Open Studios in the hills has nurtured emerging local artists and propelled established practitioners. The program has evolved the idea of “what” constitutes art, and who is considered an artist. It has created a showcase for artists who work in traditional techniques, championed artists with quirky practices, and shared the craft of musicians, gold and silver smiths, knife smiths, graphic designers, 3D model makers alongside painters, sculptors and photographers.

Returning in 2023 are a number of artists for whom Dandenong Ranges has been integral to their growth as a professional artist.

A highlight of the program is the annual Open Studios group exhibition, running from Friday 31 March to Saturday 13 May. Designed to produce a cohesive and diverse range of artwork to showcase the creative energy and skill of each participating artist or collective.

The Dandenong Ranges Open Studios Group Exhibition “Transcend” offers compelling takes on nature, community, spirituality, interior worlds and more. Be captivated by inspiring moments of reflection and renewal, magic and escapism, comfort and calm.

Visiting the exhibition before the open weekend is a great way to get a taster and then curate your personal Open Studios weekend arts trail.

Let your curiosity guide you through the beauty of the Dandenong Ranges in full autumn glory, the perfect backdrop for an incredible weekend.  Over the years, this highly anticipated event has seen over 7500 studio visitations each weekend.
