About
3MDR Community Radio is a non-profit organisation dedicated to Community Engaged Broadcasting and to vigorously supporting local music, arts, cultures and the environment.
‘MDR’ stands for Mountain District Radio and we broadcast 24 hours a day 7 days a week across a transmission area extending from Ferntree Gully to Emerald, and Silvan to Berwick. Tune in via 97.1 on your FM dial or via our livestream or onDemand services.
3MDR provides an alternative to commercial and national stations, giving a platform to music and issues of social justice; and many people, causes and opinions that may otherwise not be heard.
The programs we offer include a wide variety of specialty music, live performances, news and lifestyle and local community arts and culture. We pride ourselves on featuring heaps of Australian music and supporting independent artists.
You can also tune into a wide variety of community language shows including Greek, Romanian, Sri Lankan, Tamil, Hindi, Croatian, and Samoan, which are all proudly hosted at 3MDR.
3MDR runs on the hard work, passion and dedication of two part time staff, over 100 volunteers, and the generosity of the subscribers, donors and sponsors. We couldn’t stay on the airwaves without all your support.
“On behalf of the Mount Burnett Observatory I extend our thanks and appreciation to 3MDR for spreading the word on our latest event, Melbourne Open House. We had a tremendous response. We were fully booked out and a waiting list was opened. This is why community radio is so valuable to the community. So many people attended and were able to learn more about the observatory, what it does and how it can be of educational value to the community.” ~ Mount Burnett Observatory
3MDR is a member of the Community Broadcasting Association Australia (CBAA).
